QM Windsurfing Youth Win The Eric Twiname Junior Championships

The 32nd Eric Twiname Junior Championship concluded on Bank Holiday  Monday with a host of young sailors crowned winners. For a third day the sun beat down on the 280 junior racers as the glorious run of weather continued at Rutland Water.

The sailors, aged between 10 and 16, hail from the RYA‘s ten home countries and regions nationwide, and represent the very best in regional talent.

Queen Mary Sailing Club’s Iona Shefford, 11, won the Techno 4.5 fleet only finishing outside of the top three once, while Queen Mary Sailing Club’s William Ziegler, 12, took the Techno 5.8 title.

Massive congratulations from everyone at the club.

With just over two months to go an amazing 46 school are set to take on the challenge!

Young people in school today will bear the brunt of the future environmental impact of inadequately managed plastic. This Challenge will develop awareness of the environmental impact of plastic through a Guinness World Record attempt using plastic bottles to make model boats.

Model Boat making is an activity already used by schools in Key Stage One to teach “floating and sinking”. We want to encourage schools to look beyond the core curriculum at the environmental impact of plastic, using plastic bottle boats as a platform to develop plastic educational projects across all years of a school.

Calling all teachers…
